Residency Program

We offer residencies for colleges, universities, dance centers and high schools. Ranging from two days to one week, these programs can be tailored to fit the specific schedules and needs of a department and may include classes, workshops, lecture demonstrations, or the creation of new work. Artistic director Amelia Rudolph and/ or company members will lead students in various levels of classes including:

  • aerial techniques
  • post-modern dance technique
  • choreography
  • Project Bandaloop repertoire
  • contact improvisation/partnering
  • strength training (pilates/yoga)
  • multi-media presentations
  • climbing clinics

For a program at least one week in length, the dancers will adapt choreography from the company's repertory work to create a piece with the students. In conjunction with a Project Bandaloop performance, students may have the opportunity to perform alongside the company.

Classes Offered:

  • Aerial classes involve instruction in off-the-ground dancing, safety, training methods and Project Bandaloop's signature aerial style. All gear will be supplied.
  • Post-modern technique class is geared toward any level of dancer, in the style of Project Bandaloop's on-the-ground dancing, classes include elements of upright technique, floor work, inversions and athletic release-based dancing.
  • Composition class serves as an introduction to Project Bandaloop's process of dance-making. We will work with improvisational scores, collaborative phrase-building, and compositional exercises to generate new choreographic material.
  • Repertoire class is designed for more advanced dancers. In conjunction with the aerial workshops and technique classes, students will learn excerpts from Project Bandaloop repertoire.
  • Contact Improvisation/partnering is an on-the-ground class that focuses on building skills for creating and performing intricate partnering.
  • Strength Training/Pilates/Yoga is an all levels class working to build the specific muscles needed for aerial dance, combining elements of yoga, Pilates, and strength training.

All residency instructors are seasoned teachers and core company members. For most residencies, a team of at least two dancers and one Project Bandaloop rigger will be on location.

Fees are based on the number of students, the length of the residency and whether the classes occur in conjunction with performances by the company or as a stand-alone project. All fees are exclusive of travel and housing. Project Bandaloop will work with you and your department to tailor the workshop to fit your artistic and financial needs.
